What It Is
DMARC stands for Domain-based Message Authentication Reporting and Conformance. As of February 2024, it was announced that this will affect those sending over 5000 emails a day, but no doubt this will quickly become a factor for anyone sending bulk emails.
We’ve been keeping a close eye on how this is developing and the recommendations that both Yahoo and Google have shared, and here’s what we would advise you to do to keep yourselves compliant.
If you send 5,000 messages a day or more to either of the world’s largest mailbox providers, you must have a DMARC policy on your DNS. Messages that do not pass DMARC Alignment will simply not be delivered. With Email Marketing as a vital part of your digital presence and conversion journey, this would be a significant blow to your business’s brand awareness and lead generation efforts.
Here at ICAAL, we’re working hard to make sure our Email Marketing clients achieve DMARC compliance to prevent any disruption to their marketing. If you’re unsure what is it and why it matters, take a look at our guide and for more advice, talk to us today.
Why It’s Important
DMARC helps to prevent fraudulent emails – so it’s an important thing to implement, though the authorisation and verification process involved in setting this up is a little technical.
If you’ve ever been annoyed by mysterious, unwanted spam emails landing in your inbox, then you’ll be happy with these DMARC changes. It works to reduce email fraud by providing clearer visibility on how a domain is used, preventing unauthorised senders from delivering emails on behalf of an organisation.
It’s important for reliability, too. After all the thought and care put into creating targeted, actionable, highly converting emails, you want to make sure they actually reach the desired customer base! As such, DMARC is key as it is the foundation for reliable email delivery, and getting it in place is a key step in resolving email delivery issues.
What You Need To Do
If you work with us for your Email Marketing already, then you don’t need to do anything at all. We will likely have already reached out to you (or we’ll be about to – keep your eyes peeled) to let you know how we can take care of this and get it resolved for you.
If you handle your mailing lists in-house, this will be something you want to deal with sooner rather than later. But don’t worry, if you’re not too technically minded, we can help. Our Graphic Design and Web Development experts are on hand to help you understand DMARC compliance, what it means for you and your business – and why you need to act.
