ICAAL are a company born and bred in Southampton and we are passionate about the city we have grown in. To give back to our local community, we have been supporting Southampton Hospital Charity. They have launched construction of a new Children’s Emergency and Trauma Department. With the number of children’s emergency department attendances increasing by 146% over the past 10 years, this new area is desperately needed!
The new Children’s Emergency and Trauma Department will enable a level of care above and beyond what is currently possible. With state of the art technology and specially designed, child -friendly spaces, the new department will make a child’s stay in hospital dramatically less scary and stressful. With many of the ICAAL staff having children themselves, this cause is close to our heart and something we are eager to support.
Towards the end of 2018, there was an unprecedented demand for emergency services. Work on the construction was paused until this increased need lessened, ensuring that the staff could do what they do best, help their patients. If anything, this temporary break has highlighted even further what a game changer the new purpose-built unit will be!
Jeneen Thomsen, Head of Major Gifts at Southampton Hospital Charity, spoke to us to give an update about the progress and development of the project:
“Thanks to ICAAL’s generous support, University Hospital Southampton has been able to begin construction of the new Children’s Emergency and Trauma Department. As a result, phase one of the build has been completed and is in use. […] Phase two, the construction of the Children’s entrance, will be completed at the end of 2019.”
